PARKING LOT STENCILS AND MARKINGS
We use Cal-Trans-specified parking lot stencils on all projects to avoid “ghosting.” Ghosting occurs when different striping contractors use two or three different stencils causing a shadowing effect. By utilizing Cal-Trans-specified stencils, property managers and facility directors can be assured their parking lots will show uniformity.
To avoid “ghosting” we recommend blacking out old parking lot stencils before repainting or sealing a parking lot. This process will cause a job to achieve a more aesthetic appearance over a longer period of time. Also, try to get your striping contractor to use the same stencil that is already in use on your parking lot. Chances are if they are a professional company they should have access to your stencils regardless if they are metric or standard by design.

HANDICAP STRIPING AND DISABLED PARKING LOT MARKINGS

However, maintaining disabled, or handicapped, parking is very important for property owners and managers to avoid costly lawsuits. THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
CONCRETE SURFACE PREPARATION
This can be used for cleaning existing dirty concrete, opening up concrete for paint or a sealer, or removing adhesives, etc. We also offer sweeping, brooming, polishing, and other supporting services.
SHOT BLASTING
Shotblasting is a service we offer to remove existing striping and prepare a concrete surface for painting. Small metal beads chip away paint or etch a concrete surface with a self-contained vacuum. This service is especially useful for warehouses, distribution facilities, and parking garages.
SANDBLASTING
Similarly, sandblasting is used to remove existing striping or painted curbs. However, this process is more applicable to asphalt and outdoor parking lots. Unlike shot blasting, sandblasting is not a self-contained removal process and requires more attention to clean-up and safety. Despite these differences, shot blasting and sandblasting are both effective means to efficiently remove striping.
Prior to the application of traffic paint, the AZPW crews will clean all dust and debris to ensure proper bonding of the traffic paint. When new layouts are necessary, pavement markings are accurately measured and marked. On re-striping of existing lines, existing stripes are located and marked.
Pavement markings are placed using air spray equipment or a gravity striping machine which ensures uniform line width, clean edges, and proper paint coverage rates.
